Volunteer Opportunities

Title: Classroom Aide
Department: Child Development Program
Reports to: CDP Director; Daily supervision provided by CDP Lead Classroom Teacher
Time Commitment: Flexible (prefer at least 4 hrs per month) 6:30am- 6pm

Major Objective: 
To assist Whitefoord, Inc. CDP staff in providing children special one-on-one time.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Read to small group of children or individual child.
  • Play a game with small group of children.
  • Work one-on-one with a child.
  • Assist in planning a field trip – research location, prepare a schedule, etc.
  • Attend CDP field trips.
  • Prepare classroom materials – cut, copy, color, etc.
  • Rock babies/toddlers.
  • Help monitor attendance.

Qualifications:

  • Attendance Whitefoord, Inc. Orientation Session. (required for non-parent volunteers)
  • Successful completion of background check. (required for non-parent volunteers)
  • Enjoy children.
  • Patient.
  • Dependable.

Title: Computer Clubhouse Volunteer
Department: Beyond School Hours
Reports to: Clubhouse Coordinator
Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per week 3:30pm- 6pm

Major Objective: 
To provide students in the Computer Clubhouse with specific, age-appropriate training in a particular computer-related field of study (e.g., graphic design, web design, journalism, video editing, painting, photography)

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide 30 minutes of age-appropriate instruction in a computer-related field.
  • Provide students with hands-on activities or art exercises.
  • Encourage participation among all students.
  • Set positive example at all times.
  • Help students understand the skill they are learning can be made into a career.

Qualifications:

  • Attendance Whitefoord, Inc. Orientation Session. (required for non-parent volunteers)
  • Successful completion of background check. (required for non-parent volunteers)
  • Background/advanced knowledge in a relevant, computer-related field.
  • Enjoy working with teenagers.
  • Dependable.
  • Enjoy learning new things.

Title: Office Aide
Department: Child Development Program
Reports to: CDP Program Director

Major Objective: 
Assist staff in performing the daily work of managing the CDP.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Make copies.
  • File papers.
  • Sort materials.
  • Answer phone, as needed.
  • Contact parents as needed to remind of activities, check on absence of child, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Attendance at Whitefoord, Inc. Orientation Session. (required for non-parent volunteers)
  • Successful completion of background check. (required for non-parent volunteers)
  • Enjoy office/administrative-type work.
  • With direction, able to use copy machine.
  • Dependable.

Title: Enrichment Teacher for Extended Day Program
Department: Child Development Program
Reports to: CDP Director; direction provided by Classroom Teacher
Time Commitment: One hour class demonstration (more than one session can be accommodated, if needed) 2:30pm-6pm

Major Objective: 
To share with children the talents or hobbies of others as a means of exposing them to the world.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare an age-appropriate, one-hour presentation about your particular talent, craft or hobby..
  • Encourage child interaction/participation
  • Contact classroom teacher one week in advance to receive feedback on your presentation topic/ideas.
  • Inform classroom teacher in advance of any needed supplies.
  • Arrive early to set up presentation, if needed.

Qualifications:

  • Attendance Whitefoord, Inc. Orientation Session. (required for non-parent volunteers)
  • Successful completion of background check. (required for non-parent volunteers)
  • Love for children!
  • Passion for teaching!
  • Ability to explain your talent or hobby at the level of a 3-4 year old child.
