Summer Reading Program

When school is out, learning continues at Whitefoord Inc. Our Summer Reading Program is designed to improve test scores and reduce reading deficiencies of elementary school students. With structured reading and enrichment activities for first through fifth grade students, the Summer Reading program strives to avoid a decline in national and state reading scores year over year.

The Criterion Reference Competency Test (CRCT) and Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) are administered to third and fifth grade students and directly influence students' promotion to the next grade level. Last school year, more than 90 percent of program participants showed improvement in their reading test scores.

For eight weeks, participants are paired with trained reading instructors to help elevate their reading level and test scores. With no more than 12 students in each class, they receive the attention they need to make leaps in reading comprehension.

In addition to focused learning activities, students take time to enjoy summer fun including weekly trips to the swimming pool and field trips to the Center for Puppetry Arts, Mayfield Dairy Farm, and the World of Coca-Cola.
