After School Enrichment Program

Success in school often requires diligent work outside of school Our After School Enrichment Program provides that support to improve the academic performance of Whitefoord Elementary School students, grades first through fifth, at in a safe and nurturing environment.

Because of our close relationship with Atlanta Public Schools and Whitefoord Elementary, students are provided intensive and individualized academic support based on the school curriculum. With a low teacher-to-student ratio of 1 to 15, each student receives the attention and guidance needed to help them advance his or her academic performance.

Teachers develop learning plans based on students’ academic level and work closely with them to practice their skills and knowledge as well as engage their creativity and develop problem solving skills. Specialized educational assistance is offered to third and fifth grade students in preparation for the state’s Criterion Reference Competency Test (CRCT).

In addition to focused academic support, After School Enrichment seeks to enrich students’ lives through activities such as karate, art, music, dance, and challenging educational games. Parent and family involvement is a key element of the program. Regular family focused activities and events are held throughout the year.

Daily schedule during the regular school year:

  • 3:00-4:00 Individualized Tutoring/Academic Assistance

Summer Camp

When school is out, learning continues at Whitefoord. Our Summer Camp is designed to improve test scores and reduce reading deficiencies of elementary school students. With structured reading and enrichment activities for first through fifth grade students, the Summer Camp strives to avoid a decline in national and state reading scores year over year.

The Criterion Reference Competency Test (CRCT) and Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) are administered to third and fifth grade students and directly influence students’ promotion to the next grade level. Last school year, more than 90 percent of program participants showed improvement in their reading test scores.

For eight weeks, participants are paired with trained reading instructors to help elevate their reading level and test scores. With no more than 12 students in each class, they receive the attention they need to make leaps in reading comprehension.

In addition to focused learning activities, students take time to enjoy summer fun including weekly trips to the swimming pool and field trips to the Center for Puppetry Arts, Mayfield Dairy Farm, and the World of Coca-Cola.
