Whitefoord Early Learning

Early childhood experiences are a strong predictor of lifelong health, well-being, and educational outcomes.

Originally known as Whitefoord Community Program, our early education program grew out of Dr. George W. Brumley's efforts to eliminate generational poverty in Southeast Atlanta. Today, the Whitefoord Early Learning Academy (WELA) is a unique public-private partnership between Whitefoord, a non-profit organization, and Atlanta Public Schools (APS) and is designed to capitalize on the strengths and resources of each. Staying true to the original mission of its founders, WELA offers sliding-fee scale tuition and payment plans for qualifying families.

WELA is a 3-star Quality Rated Center. Our commitment to ensuring every child has the opportunity to learn and grow in a safe, nurturing environment guides everything we do. We take a holistic approach to support children's physical, social, and emotional development by engaging parents and caregivers in their child’s educational experience. We also promote and encourage access to quality health care for the entire family through our school-based health centers and our medical center located across the street from WELA, all of which offer primary and preventative healthcare on a sliding-fee scale. Through this model, we believe we can ensure children read on grade level or higher by 3rd grade, help close the opportunity gap across race and income, reduce early childhood injury and illness, and build healthier, safer, and more resilient communities.
